Royal Doulton Teapot

Royal Doulton teapot made in Stoke on Trent where I worked as a probation officer in the 1970s. It reminds me of the heyday of the pottery industry where skilled women decorators could earn as much as or more than their male counterpart potters. A rare example of equality in employment.  But it also reminds me of the home visits I spent half my working week doing, drinking numerous cups of tea and learning so much about the reality of the lives of the clients I supervised on probation and their families. Probation officers were part of the community then.
